Schuyler Wight’s great-grandfather, A.W. Wight made his way from Colorado to Odessa, Texas in 1883 with a herd of sheep. He spent the first winter camped out at a playa lake on the ranch he would later homestead. Later, ranches in Andrews and Winkler counties would be added to the family’s holdings.

Schuyler received a bachelor’s degree in range science from Abilene Christian University and runs cattle on several ranches in West Texas. He is married to his first wife of 33 years, Kristina, and they have 2 daughters. They are all actively involved in the day-to-day management of the ranches. Schuyler is a private pilot, and loves working cattle horseback.

Ranchers are the original environmentalists, and that spirit is embodied in Schuyler’s commitment to preserving the land and ecosystem. Permian Basin ranchers deal with wind, water, solar, sand, oil & gas, eminent domain, pipelines, and utilities in addition to the challenges of managing a profitable cattle enterprise. By utilizing a holistic approach to management of these many unique challenges, he has been able to carry forward the family legacy.
